Challenge
Project Overview:
I was tasked with reimagining the desktop email interface for Microsoft Outlook to make it mobile-friendly while ensuring the integrity of critical security features. The Fortra Classification for Microsoft Outlook on the web is a security and governance add-in that enables organizations to manage sensitive information within emails.
- Understanding the Current System & Requirements: Analyzed the existing desktop interface, focusing on classification, PII detection, and restrictions.
- Defining Design & Security Constraints: Collaborated to ensure the mobile UI retained all security mechanisms from the desktop version.
- Conducting User Research: Gathered insights from real users to prioritize mobile feature accessibility and usability.
- Evaluating Security & Functionality: Validated security workflows with the team and ensured Section 508 compliance.
- Wireframing & Prototyping: Created low- and high-fidelity prototypes focused on accessibility, layout, and security integration.
- Iterative Testing & Refinement: Conducted user testing to refine interactions with PII warnings and classification elements.
- Development & Implementation: Supported frontend development ensuring platform consistency and performance.
- Deployment & Monitoring: Oversaw rollout, training, and analytics-driven refinements post-launch.
Outcome:
The project successfully delivered a secure, mobile-friendly email interface for government/military use, preserving all critical classification and compliance features while improving productivity and accessibility.
