About this Project

Challenge

As a designer and developer, I was entrusted with the creation of a comprehensive web portal specifically for the HR employees at USAA. This portal was envisioned as a centralized hub, meticulously organized to house essential documents, web forms, tutorials, and a variety of other resources aimed at enhancing daily operations. The HR team at USAA encountered significant difficulties in managing the disorganization of outdated and current documents, highlighting the urgent need for a cohesive repository to store relevant information. My goal was not only to develop a web portal that was intuitively user-friendly but also to ensure it was functional, relevant, and equipped with valuable tools that would streamline HR processes and increase overall efficiency.

Process

One of the primary objectives was to create a SharePoint web portal that closely resembled a traditional website, offering users a more engaging and familiar interface compared to standard SharePoint pages. To overcome certain limitations inherent in SharePoint, I designed and implemented custom fields and forms that enhanced the user experience, ensuring it felt more like browsing a website rather than navigating a conventional SharePoint environment.

To accomplish this, I employed a combination of technologies, including Angular for dynamic content rendering, JavaScript for interactivity, and HTML for structuring the web pages. This technical stack allowed for a responsive and fluid user experience that could adapt to various screen sizes and devices.

The development process included weekly meetings with key stakeholders, such as HR leaders, web designers, and SharePoint developers. These collaborative sessions were crucial for gathering feedback, ensuring that my designs were not only relevant but also effectively addressed user pain points. This iterative approach helped to align the project with our overall goals and ensured that we met all established objectives successfully.

Outcome/Results

Due to the HR team's prior successful adaptation to the SharePoint portal, the management and marketing teams made a strategic decision to implement SharePoint as the central hub for all document storage and distribution within the organization. This decision aimed to streamline workflows and enhance collaboration across departments.

At the conclusion of the project, we achieved significant milestones, successfully creating a product that not only met the needs of the HR users but also integrated seamlessly with their established practices. Our development process focused on ensuring that the interface was user-friendly, featuring intuitive navigation and easily accessible resources that the HR team could quickly familiarize themselves with.

Furthermore, we prioritized presenting products in a manner that was both relevant and engaging, ensuring that users could effortlessly find the information they needed. This approach not only improved user satisfaction but also fostered greater efficiency within the HR team as they managed their documentation and communication needs through the SharePoint portal.
